Ahhhh it feels good to be home. 30+ hours stuck in a Volkswagen Jetta will do that to you. I feel like I have SO MUCH to do for this blog-posting pictures of the lovely ladies in Austin, the events I went to, and my incredible thrift store finds-not to mention cleaning out my Google reader unread blog count, which is hovering somewhere over the 500 mark. As if that wasn't enough, the house desperately needs to be cleaned and we're looking at an apartment later this afternoon. Despite my massive to-do list, I desperately need to show you guys how much I adore this outfit that I wore out to breakfast.

Young Adult Friction

What a whirlwind it's been here. Today was a rush of movies, shows, and seeing old friends. As I mentioned in my last post, I attended the finale screening of Leah Shore's experimental short film Meatwaffle. She got a great reception and the other films in her category were equally brilliant, especially Kids Might Fly, Feeder, and I Miss. I also did merch for the Notekillers and was able to catch The Dutchess and the Duke before dragging my tired butt home for a few hours of recharging. Today we're attempting to catch The xx, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Thurston Moore, John Doe, and Band of Horses.

I also managed to get a few high quality images of my outfits, plus Leah's and my best friend Lee's.

Of course, there was no way Lee and I could go by the red carpet and not make total jackasses out of ourselves.

Whoa an update!

I'm such a dummy sometimes. I forgot that even though I can't get digital camera pictures of myself very easily right now, I DO have a webcam built into my laptop. Granted, the quality sucks and there's no timer so getting a full(ish) body shot means laying sideways and trying to squeeze everything into the frame. But still. Better than nothing right?

The weather's been cold in the mornings and night, but absolutely gorgeous in the day, so I'm fairly certain I can get away with shorts and a thin shirt.

I'm heading off soon to meet an old high school friend, Leah Shore, whose animated movie Meat Waffle is showing in Austin after a very successful premiere at Sundance. Leah was always incredibly talented at art and theater in high school, so it's really cool to see her getting national recognition for her work. I never though that I'd know anyone famous, but she's definitely going to be taking off in a big way. Please check out her work if you're into weird, sarcastic humor mixed with jaw-dropping animation.

Greetings from Austin!

Just a quick update to say that I made it safely and am having an incredible time. The house I'm staying at has a free wifi business center, so hopefully I should be able to add some photos soon. I haven't been able to get any pictures of my own outfits, but there's a hell of a lot of stylish ladies (and men!) out here and I've been snapping pictures left and right. I've also been distributing flyers, hastily assembled at Kinko's yesterday (so please ignore the uneven cutting and grainy quality (it's not sloppy, it's "DIY punk rock")). 

 

Quick heads up to anyone at the festival- I'll be doing merch for the Notekillers tonight. They're playing at Headhunters (720 Red River St, use the 8th St entrance) at 9:45pm. Please come by and say hello!

Puppet on a String

In lieu of outfit posts from this weekend (believe me- you're not missing anything, as it's been pouring cats and dogs since Friday), I've got a couple extra pictures from Friday evening. As I mentioned before, Ray and I were going to a belated birthday dinner and then to an avant garde rendition of Julius Caesar as performed by 5 local performing arts companies; 1classical, 2 puppet, 1 interpretive dance, and 1...I don't even know what. You've all seen my [fabulous] dress, but I didn't get any pictures of Ray until we were ready to leave. You know how boys are, not getting ready until the last possible minute. Lucky for him, he looks so darn cute in a tie that it was worth the wait.

"I'm Ray. Based off my expression, you'd think I was grumpy and upset, but this is my 'model' face. I think I look damn handsome."

As I said, it was raining and we were somewhat dressed up, so we knixed the bikes and opted for the subway.

Subway to HELL!

Let me tell you. After walking down a flooded, pothole ridden alleyway in a considerable amount of rain, this is about the most welcoming sight in the world.

So that's all for now. We've got a full morning of running around, securing last minute details, and are hoping to  hit the road sometime around 8:00 tomorrow evening. Hopefully I'll be back sometime later this week!
